Melbourne is currently experiencing an epidemic of women flooding to golf courses and driving ranges to Give Golf a Go!

Golf Victoria is at present working with 12 golf venues across Melbourne to conduct Give Golf a Go; a program designed to introduce women to golf in a non-threatening, social and relaxed group environment. About 350 women have recently enjoyed their first golf clinic – first of a 4 or 5 week program.

‘'It has been wonderful going out to launch the programs around Melbourne'' explains Serrin Cooper, Golf Victoria's Give Golf a Go Manager ‘'all the girls have been extremely excited and eager to start learning golf. I have met women who have never touched a golf club before, women who wish to re-enter the game after years away from the sport bringing up a family and women who would like to see more of their husbands, so want to learn!''.

Golf Victoria works closely with Host Venues to establish initiatives and incentives to encourage women to continue to play after clinics have ended. Examples being on-going beginner events and clinics, discounted memberships and mentoring programs. Ringwood Ladies Golf Club have done an exceptional job engaging its club members to come out to clinics to help out and make participants feel welcome – they will be continuing to support beginners to pursue their golf by inviting them back to enjoy a 3 hole event in week 1 followed by a 6 hole event in week 2 and a 9 hole event in week 3.

Golf Victoria will additionally be hosting an array of Give Golf a Go Gala Events around Melbourne with the idea to help beginners progress from clinics to on-course play. Erica Kreymborg, Golf Victoria's Women's Golf Network Manager will also be encouraging those beginners who feel they are up to playing 9 holes to come and try a Network event. ‘'For Give Golf a Go participants, the Women's Golf Network is a wonderful way to continue to learn how to play golf'', explains Erica. ‘'It gives women the chance to improve their golf and feel a bit more confident before progressing to club membership''.

Give Golf a Go participants will be informed about opportunities to continue golf by Golf Victoria in upcoming weeks.
