Australia wins Junior Pacific Cup!
Wednesday 12 January 2011
The Junior Pacific Cup for 2011 was hosted at Yering Meadows (Croydon) Golf Club by Mr Ron and Mrs Jo Baddeley (Tour Managers). This prestigious international event is based on the Ryder Cup format made up of two teams of four boys and two girls from Australia and the USA.
The 2011 event was held from Sunday 9th January to Tuesday 11th January. The Australian team consisted of four boys and two girls under the age of 18:
Sean Ong (Kingswood G.C.)
Ben Eccles (The Sands Torquay)
Ben Rogers (Sorrento G.C.)
Mitchell Sheather (Long Island G.C.)
Julienne Soo (Woodlands G.C.)
Bianca Ling (Kingswood G.C.)
The Australian team fought back on the final day after being down by one match, needing to win at least four out of the six matches to maintain the title. The US were in a similar position last year on home turf, losing to Australia on the final day, therefore they were very keen to make sure that didnt happen again.
However the Australian team got off to a flying start and worked hard to keep ahead of the US team. Bianca played really well to defeat Joyce Kim 2&1, whilst Julienne scored a low round of golf to defeat Brittany Mai 2&1, halving the 17th hole with birdies. These two matches, plus wins from two out of the four boys gave Australia the title once again!
Well done to all the players!

2009 Burtta Cheney Anglesea Girls' Golf Camp
Monday 6 July 2009
This year over 90 girls participated in the Burtta Cheney Anglesea Girls Golf Camps.
Two camps were held:
3 Day Camp 28-30 June 9-13 year olds
4 Day Camp 30 June-3 July 14-17 year olds
The girls who attended on the 3 day camp were very lucky with nice weather, particularly for their 9 hole Joey Ambrose Event. The non handicap winners were Nicola Rix, Aimee Edwards, Jaynaya Wharton and Hayley Young. The winners of the handicap event were Alice Caddy, Tegan Bruce, Abbey Trinca and Jacqui Garvey.
The 4 day camp participants were not so lucky, faced with torrential rain and wind, however that didn?t deter the girls from continuing in horrendous weather. The girls still managed to have fun and further develop their golf despite the conditioins.
The Kangaroo Trophy held on the first day of camp, saw Tilly Poulson (3) from Kingston Heath win the overall gross on a count back with the defending champion Rachel Korevaar (5) from
Alex White (33) from The Dunes won the Overall Nett with a score of 68 and
Anna Coffey (45) from Traralgon won the 9 hole stableford competition. Congratulations to all girls who completed the camp and we look forward to seeing you at future events
A big thank you to Anglesea Golf Club for giving up their course and practice facilities for the camp. WGV also would like to thank all the volunteers and coaches who made the camp possible.
