Come and Try Days
WGV plan on holding four Come and Try golf days for girls interested in giving golf a go over the next twelve months. More information will be made available later in the year.
Girls' Sport Victoria
In partnership with Girl's Sport Victoria (GSV), WGV coordinates an annual Saturday morning golf program for girls enrolled in one of thirty-schools within the GSV network. The clinics are held each year from February through April. Contact GSV for more details on this program.
TYRO Squad
WGV's TYRO squad is for rising golf stars. Girls under 14 years with handicaps less than 15 are encouraged to attend one of two weekend training camps in regional Victoria with the WGV State Coach and Strength and Conditioning advisor. The camp is designed for juniors who are outstanding role models within their home club and who show a commitment to improving their game.
Regional Camps
Girls' Golf Network members residing in Regional Victoria have the opportunity to attend one of four regional weekend camps held throughout the year. Camps cover advancement skills and strength and conditioning and are coordinated by WGV's State Coach. Information on these camps will be made available here and via the GGN e-newsletter. Future Champions Training Squad
With the recent launch of the WGV Junior Averages Trophy, WGV has revised its Future Champions Series and announced that for girls on handicaps less than 25 there will be a series of advanced training days held throughout 2009 with WGV's State Coach. More information on this squad will be made available here.
Border Challenge
Held in January each year, WGV and South Australia compete in the 'Cudmore-Cheney Border Challenge'. A team of 6 girls and 2 team managers was announced on October 2 at the final of the 2009 Victorian Junior Championships. The team will travel to Port Fairy (Vic) in early January to contest the Challenge. To be eligible, girls must have attended one of the 2009 Anglesea Camps.
Burtta Cheney Anglesea Girls' Golf Camp
The Anglesea Girls' Golf Camp is an annual event held in the June-July School Holidays. There are two camps.
3 Day Camp
- Suitable for 9-13 year olds
- Don't require an official handicap
4 Day Camp
- Suitable for 14-17 year olds
- Official handicap preferred
Approx 50 girls attend each camp with WGV's State Coach and a selection of other coaches attending the camp.
The Anglesea Camp provides an opportunity for girls to meet other junior golfers, receive expert coaching, be exposed to the latest sport science and have fun!
Gatehouse Award
The Gatehouse Award was created in 1972 by the Gatehouse family in memory of prominent golfer and administrator Mrs. Austin Gatehouse for the encouragement of junior golfers in The award is presented to the junior girl in each state who is considered to have made the greatest contribution to the sport. Commitment, dedication and personal achievements are considered but also important is the player?s contribution to her community, club, district or State Association. The award is accompanied by a scholarship grant of $110 (GST inc) which the player may utilise for the purpose of coaching fees, tournament entry fees or associated travel. The winner of the Gatehouse Award for 2009 is Angela Dunn from Flinders Golf Club. Congratulations Angela!
