Handicapping

What is a handicap?

A handicap enables golfers to compete against other golfers fairly. It is essentially a player's ability to play a round of 9 or 18 holes of golf consistently.

How to get a Handicap

To obtain an official Australian handicap, recognised by Golf Australia, you need to be a member of a golf club affiliated with Women's Golf Victoria. For women, you must submit three score cards (over 9 or 18 holes), marked by another player with an official handicap. These scores are then averaged out to determine your handicap. In Australia, the women's handicapping system issues Golf Australia handicaps within the range of 0 - 45. The majority of golfers start their careers on a 45 handicap, and over time as they improve, lower their handicap.

Women's Golf Network

You can also obtain an official handicap by joining the Women's Golf Network (WGN). WGN is a virtual golf club of Women's Golf Victoria. For an annual fee, you can join our Club, receive a handicap, insurance and great playing opportunities. For more information on the WGN look under the 'Playing the Game' tab.
