Round 2 - Glenelg Cup
2011 Results
The Glenelg Cup competition was fierce. Rosalie Leake (Beaconhills GC)was leading after round 1 and she backed up her 67 nett with a 75 today. But Anna Castles (Yarrawonga and Border GC) and Denise Mulcahy (Mafra GC) had other plans!!! They attacked today and came home with strong nett scores of 68 and 69 respectively. Anna is the Glenelg Cup Winner and Denise snatched the Runner Up position on a count back over Rosalie Leake. Anna also won the Best 36 hole gross. Best 18 hole nett for today's round was taken by Ann Stokes (Anglesea GC). Congratulations to all of them!
Last night the Tournament Dinner was enjoyed by all with a special presentation being done to the Country Volunteer of the year, Joy Kelly. There was also a band playing music - not to be wasted of course…and the women were up and dancing in no time! Tonite, singing voices will be tested on a fun Karaoke night hosted Tocumwal's CEO – Steve Williams. Thank you, Steve. And while Glenelg Cup players can now rest, at least 8 players will have an early night with the Championship continuing tomorrow at 8:00 am on the Captain's course. Best luck to all of them! Round1Round 1 - Country Champioships & Glenelg Cup
Day 1 of this massive golf week was the Country Foursomes Championship and it finished with a fantastic cocktail party generously hosted by Tocumwal Golf Club. The trophies for the Victorian Country Foursomes were also presented at this function. Today, an early start and perfect weather made conditions very favourable for scoring. The President’s course was the test for the Championship field (handicap 0-18) and it proved to be very challenging with Sue Wooster the only player to break the 80 barrier. Angela Dunn (Flinders GC) and Sienna Lambert (Cohuna GC) are her closest competitors, 6 shots behind.
The Glenelg Cup rewards the best nett over 36 with women between 19-35 handicap competing for this title. The first day scores are important to set these players up with a chance to win this traditional trophy. The leader at the moment is Rosalie Leake (Beaconhills GC – Hcp 26) with a nett score of 67. Rosalie is being closely followed by Sandra Bozzola (Yarrawonga & Border GC – Hcp 22) and a nett of 68. With more lovely weather forecast and the courses in pristine condition, we can only expect great results!
These events are packed with fun activities – at the end of Day 2 we will enjoy the "famous” tournament dinner…maybe just another excuse to catch up with old friends, have a good laugh and a few drinks…so just remember it is all about having fun not just about the golf!
