Kialla Golf Club - 19 September 2011

Nothing like visiting a good old fashioned country golf club! From the beautiful countryside to the most delicious homemade food, friendly helping hands and happy players, everything combined to make what could've been a simple golf day just amazing! The course was in very good shape and, even though the early heat struck some players and the wind picked up, the overall scoring was excellent. This group of women, with handicaps between 28 and 44, made the most of the opportunity to win a State Title. Louise Cross from Nagambie GC (31 hcp) was the clear winner with 47 points, followed by a ‘local' Kialla GC member who happens to be also the Lady President of the club – Cheryl Stevens (40 hcp) with 44 points. Congratulations to all the players for taking part in this special day and a big thanks to Kialla GC, all its members and District Delegate Joy Kelly for their efforts.

One event remains for this year's series and it will take place at the modern Sanctuary Lakes Golf Club on 21 November. 47 points is the score to beat! Let's hope some of today's participants make the trip to town to take on the challenge.

Kingswood Golf Club - 16 May 2011

In very wintery conditions 12 players participated in the second stage of the State Stableford Series (SSS). The event was held at the Kingswood Golf Club, which is one of the hidden gems on Melbourne's golf scene. This golf course, built in the sandbelt, is one of those that most poeple would be happy to play for the rest of their lives - it is easy to walk but still challenging enough to test one’s golfing ability.

Some of the participants from the first event returned. However, the winners were different. Robyn Owens’ game (Long Island GC) didn’t seem to be too much affected by the strong winds and she claimed the winner's title with 40 points. This was 5 points clear of her fellow club member Margaret Hamilton who finished the day with 35 points. Excellent effort ladies on a very cold morning!

Nicki Charman once against hosted this day. Nicki’s enthusiam is fantastic and we thank her for her efforts! Two more opportunities to claim the Stableford Series title are coming up at Werribee Park GC (15/8) and Sanctuary Lakes (21/11). These two clubs are very different and they are both worth the visit. Let’s hope more players participate and make the most of these great and affordable opportunities to play different courses around the Metropolitan area!

Keysborough Golf Club - 21 March 2011

The first of 4 State Stableford Series (SSS) events took place today at Keysborough Golf Club. It was an early start but the players were very pleased with the beautiful condition of the golf course and very lucky with the weather after rain had been forecast.

Even though it was a small field , the competition was well fought and many players had scores 30 stableford points or more. However, it was Kylie Golding from Warragul Golf Club, who has taken the lead in the SSS competition finishing her round with 39 stableford points - only 1 point ahead of Kerrie Schache from Long Island Golf Club. Very good scores on a challenging course, well done!

Nicki Charman, is one of the women’s match committee members, and kindly volunteered to run the event on behalf of Golf Victoria. Thank you Nicki! With 3 more events we expect Kylie will have some competition coming up! Please see dates above for the upcoming SSS events.

About

The State Stableford Series is designed to give those players who have a high handicap the opportunity to participate in a WGV tournament. The majority of women who participate in this event have only recently taken up the sport of golf.

The State Stableford Series consists of four days of competition played throughout the year at four different golf clubs. The day is a great experience for those wishing to meet new people on the WGV tournament circuit and is also a great opportunity to play golf in a fun and sociable environment.
