Final Round - Overcoming the elements!
Interstate and Victorian players tested not only their golfing skills but their characters as the weather conditions were extremely difficult for the final round at Finders GC. Constant rain and strong winds prevailed throughout the day but the golf course drained very well and was totally playable. Grace Lennon (Kingston Heath GC) playing from a handicap of +3, played consistently and managed to also win the Best 72 Hole Nett with a total of 298. Lauren Sinclair (Heidelberg GC), 1 handicap, was the runner up in the overall Nett event with a total of 299. Congratulations to all the players that took part in this championship and a big thank you to Devilbend and Flinders Golf Clubs, their captains, members and staff for their contribution to make this such a successful event. Last but not least, thank you to our rules officials and volunteers who donate their time to help GV grow the game of golf in the State. Final Results & Presentation Sheet

Day 1
While it rained heavily elsewhere, players only had to deal with few scattered showers on the course today…very lucky! Grace Lennon (Kinsgton Heath GC) had the best round of the day with a 66 gross, closely followed by Bree Elliot (Yarrawonga Mulwala GC) and recent Rivesdale Cup winner Whitney Hillier (Joondalup GC) with rounds of 69. About
Played over four consecutive stroke rounds, the Victorian 72 Hole Strokeplay Championship attracts a first class field, with entrants for the 2008 event held at Kingswood GC coming from the Golf Australia National Squad, Australian Institute of Sport, the Philippines, New Zealand, and Interstate. The event forms part of the Golf Australia Karrie Webb Series as a National Ranking event for Australia's leading female golfers. It is also an important event in WGV's Averages and Ranking calendar.
Open to amateur players who hold a handicap at an affiliated club not exceeding twelve (12) at the date of entry. Female professional golfers may also enter but are ineligible to receive prizes designated for amateur competitors.
WGV structure this event similarly to the Australian Women's Open with Rounds 1 and 2 played in threes, and following a cut, Rounds 3 and 4 played in two's.
The Victorian 72 Hole Strokeplay Championship was first played in 1964. The tournament was named The Nell Smithett 72 Hole Strokeplay in memory of Mrs. W.H. Smithett, member of the Victorian Ladies Golf Union Council and scratch score committee for many years in addition to being Handicap Manager from 1949-1954.
