Thirteenth Beach Golf Club - Beach Course
Not sure why anyone thought they would get wet today, didn't they know I had the weather under control...again!? It wasn't the brightest of days today but no-one got wet!. A little cooler than we'd hoped but an enjoyable day at 13th Beach. We again welcomed new members to the Network with Kate & Angie playing their first games with us. Welcome to both of you, hope you have many happy days with the Network.
We played the dreaded game of Par today. Always a tough game and so unforgiving when you're having a bit of a bad day. Well, at least it's over with for a while now, not another game of Par for quite a while! 'Phew'... I hear a few of you say. Colleen, however, playing her first game with an official handicap, wasn't put off by the Par event and made the most of her new handicap by scoring a fabulous 2up. Really pleased to see Colleen getting into the golf now and acheiving a good result. One of our long time members, Jo, is playing very consistant golf. Narrowly missing out on prizes in the past few events Jo wasn't going to miss out again today. Playing off a terrific handicap of 15 she won the Runners-up prize with 1up. The regular golf will definitely pay off and Jo's handicap will continue to come in with the way she's playing. Well done Jo!!
Nice to see one of the new members winning a prize on offer today. First gamer, Angie, won the NTP prize and was very excited with her win, too. Carol won the prize for Longest drive on the 14th. A really nice bunch of members out there today, everyone had a fun day despite the Par event. I hope those that stayed overnight had a pleasant trip back home the next day. I was very tempted to stay myself! Maybe next time...I'll pack a toothbrush!
All prize winners are as follows:
Winner: Colleen Capp - 2up off 43 hcp
Runner Up: Jo Kirby - 1up off 15hcp
NTP: 7th Hole: Angie Duddridge
Longest Drive: Carol Coghlan - 14th Hole

Heidelberg Golf Club
With Heidelberg holding it's Pro Am two days ago the course is in fantastic condition. We were, once again, spoilt with excellent weather for our Stableford event (It seems I still have the weather Gods on my side). Bright blue skies and warm conditions were in order for the 24 members taking part in today's event. We welcomed two new members to the fold in Sevi & Nancie, while Cath played for her third card for handicap.
Heidelberg is quite a 'hilly' course and some found it very challenging. It was a long walk up a some holes and that got the heart pounding a little faster (not that I care to admit it). As mentioned in earlier reports, Joan is well on her way to lowering her handicap. Today's overall scores didn't break any handicaps but Joan still managed to win today's event with 32 points on a count back. Soon you'll be playing free of charge with all the vouchers you've been winning Joan!! Well done and keep it going. Sue L, our Runner-Up, was very kind to help out new member Nancie for the first nine holes in obtaining her card for handicap. Thanks Sue. A special mention to Charlotte for her birdie on 16, scoring herself 5 points!
Once the round was finished we enjoyed some refreshments in the lounge overlooking the 1st tee & 5th green. It was nice to catch up with a few faces I hadn't seen for a while. I hope to see more of them in the coming months. All our prize winners are as follows:
Winner: Joan Donegan - 32 pts off 41 h'cap (cb)
Runner Up: Sue Leitinger- 32 pts off 18 h'cap
NTP: 2nd Hole:Jodie Black
NTP: 17th Hole: Charlotte Paton

Spring Valley Golf Club
Today we played at this year's Victorian Open course, Spring Valley. We had plenty of rain overnight but that didn't seem to affect the course too much. A couple of bunkers were affected with casual water but the fairways were in magnificent condition. As we teed off the weather had settle to perfect playing conditions. The cloud cover kept the sun at bay but temperatures were ideal. We welcomed a new Member, Julie, for her first game today. A challenging way to start playing for a handicap, but everyone has to start somewhere! Well done to you Julie, I know you enjoyed the game at the Valley and we look forward to seeing you on course, soon.
Fourteen enthusiastic members enjoyed the Stableford round today. Regular practice and playing is definitely paying off for some of our members. Joan is the perfect example of this. She is very determined to get her handicap down as fast as she can and playing more games more often is working well for her. Joan won the day with a score of 38 points which, again, will break her handicap. Keep it going Joan!! Both Kerri & Amanda finished on 30 points with Amanda winning Runner-up on a count back. All prize winners are as follows:
Winner: Joan Donegan - 38 pts off 42 h'cap
Runner Up: Amanda Gainard - 30 pts off 25 h'cap (cb)
NTP: Ronnie Hobday
Longest Drive /12th Hole: Di Butler

Waterford Valley Golf Club
Royal Women's Hospital 4BBB Qualifying
The Royal Women's Hospital Tournament is one of Golf Victoria elite events to win. WGN was very well supported last year with Victoria Bennett & Charlotte Paton taking out the title at The Metropolitan Golf Club. They were back again this year to qualify, hoping to defend their title.
Nine other teams competed for the right to play in the sectional final at Keysborough in August. Waterford Valley is in terrific condition at the moment and with lovely blue skies everyone was hoping to score highly today. It did get a little hot towards to latter part of the day and being a fairly long course it did start to have an effect on some of the players. A couple of water bottle refill trips was required as there are no water fountains or taps on course! The call for- "roll on beer-o'clock" was heard several times. Priorities, Girls!!
Carol & Sophie were scoring very well with 28 points after nine holes while playing partners Victoria & Charlotte scored 24 points and were hot on their tails. Most groups had low 20's after nine and it was looking like a tight finish. With very consistent scores and a birdie on the last hole by Victoria (scoring a very nice 5 points) the defending Champs finished with 51 points winning the day's event. An excellent score of 49 points saw Carol & Sophie take out 2nd prize & a much improved Joan and her partner Wendy placed 3rd with 48 points. Well done to all.
We also welcomed new member Colleen C for her first game with the Network today. Only one more card required for your handicap, Colleen. Well done today, I hope you enjoyed the day's golf?!
Winners: Charlotte Paton & Victoria Bennett - 51 pts
Runners Up: Carol Coghlan & Sophie Marcard - 49 pts
3rd Place: Jaon Donegan & Wendy Beron - 48 pts

20th January 2012 Sanctuary Lakes Golf Club
What a perfect day for golf! Once again, we lucked it in for great weather. No wind and a little cloud cover to keep the hot sun at bay made for a great round of golf. Sanctuary Lakes is known for it's difficulty to get out of the rough, with that in mind the aim for today was hitting straight and keeping the ball on the fairway. Some achieved this better than others with a few balls going astray! It was good to catch up with some WGN regulars and also good to see Kerry J making an appearance after a bit of an absence due to back problems. The good news there is no pain today!
Cheryle W is hitting the ball very consistenlty, due to some practise over the christmas period, she says. Well, all that practice has paid off with Cheryle winning todays Stableford event. After a slow start on the first 9 Holes, Sue L play a very nice 2nd nine to narrowly finish 2nd. All prize winners are as follows:
Winner: Cheryle Whittaker - 34 pts off 22 H'cap
Runner Up: Sue Leitinger - 33 pts off 18 H'cap
Longest Drive: Amelie Bonnet
NTP: Sue Leitinger
Winner & Runner Up: Cheryle (right) & Sue (left) | |

Sandringham Clinic & 9 Holes
Happy New Year!! Welcome back to Network golf! To ease our way back into the golf year we held a small clinic with Henry Cussell, the very capable Pro from Sandringham, followed by 9 holes of enjoyable golf.
Henry concerntrated on swinging the club through the ball today, making sure the club face is open on the way back but then closes as it moves through and passed the ball. Start with small strokes and practice, practice, practice. The more you practice the swing the more you groove yourself a pattern. He suggested looking into a mirror or window making sure the club face is doing what is should both back and forth. Henry is available at Sandringham Golf Club if you're looking for a lesson.
